100 Years of
Marshalling on the Isle of Man – Fundraising Event
In this, the centenary year of the TT, a unique opportunity to spend an
informal evening with some of the biggest names in the motorcycle racing
world has been organised. At least eight TT winners and at least six
current or former World Champions have agreed to attend the event which
will take place on Saturday 17th February 2007 at the Hilton Hotel,
Douglas, Isle of Man.
Chris Heyes is organising the event in memory of his late brother,
Martyn, a Flag Marshall at Laurel Bank on the Glen Helen section of the
course for 25 years, sadly killed at Gorse Lea during the Manx Grand
Prix in 2006.
The event will raise awareness of the essential and invaluable support
provided by the Marshalls Association during racing festivals on the
Island. Funds raised will be used for communication and medical
equipment as well as updated training for existing marshals and the
recruitment of new marshals.
Speaking about the event Chris said:
“Support for the event has been huge! We have got some of the biggest
names in the sport joining us and are grateful for the help of local
organisations such as the Department of Tourism and Leisure, Mannin
Media, EuroManx, Conister Trust and the Hilton Hotel to name a few –
more are getting involved as the event takes shape! We are confident
that this will be one of the biggest – and more memorable events of this
centenary year!”
Roger Hurst, Chairman of TT Marshall’s Association and Chief Marshall
added:
“There are between 800 and 1000 marshals present during most events
to meet the minimum manning level of 499 marshals on the course during
any practice or race session - providing the essential line of vision
cover for the entire 37¾ miles of course. It costs £1,000 to train 24
marshals so these funds will really make a difference.”
Tickets cost £35 per person and include 3 course carvery buffet –
tickets are limited so book early to ensure that you’re sitting on a
table “hosted” by a celebrity rider allocated on the night. Milky Quayle
and Chris Kinley will compere the event which will include an auction
and interviews with riders.
Tickets are available from Chris Heyes by email: cheyes@manx.net or
mobile 495105 (after 6PM only).
