Honda’s ASIMO to make appearance at Isle of Man TT 100th celebrations

ASIMO – Honda’s amazing walking life-like robot – will make his Isle of Man debut during this year’s Centenary TT celebrations where the Island’s school children are set to have ‘an audience with’ the world’s most famous robot.

ASIMO, Advanced Step In Mobility, will be giving four, free of charge, daily performances at the Villa Marina, Douglas on the 29th – 31st May at 10am, 12.10, 3pm and 6pm. The shows, hosted by television presenter Fran Robinson, will be followed by a question and answer session.

ASIMO, who has been a regular crowd-pleaser at events around the World, showcasing Honda’s technological edge at automotive and motorcycling events across the globe, will be making the trip with thousands of others across the Irish Sea to enjoy what promises to be a unique event – the 100th Isle of Man TT races.

While the Isle of Man celebrates 100 years of TT action, ASIMO is considerably younger! The Japanese manufacturer has been constructing ‘walking’ robots since 1986, which developed into the P2 – or prototype model 2 robot – which from 1993-1997 was the World’s first self-regulating, two-legged humanoid robot.

From there the P3 emerged, marking a re-design into a more ‘humanoid’ looking robot. Since 2000, this dynasty has continued with ASIMO, who features a more human-friendly ‘smoother’ look to his design. Since Y2K, ASIMO has been wowing crowds and winning an army of fans across the world; a trend which is set to continue at this year’s 100th Isle of Man TT races.

ASIMO will also be making an appearance at Honda Day, at Peel on Sunday 3rd June, with three performances. ASIMO’s first appearance is at 10:30am, followed by one at 12:30pm and 14:30pm. The full schedule for the Honda Day is shown below.
